General Information

Education in Tanzania – A place where learning, laughter, and adventure come together!

Onderwijs project Tanzania voor vrijwilligers die wat willen doen in het onderwijs

Ever imagine being in a place where you can make a real impact every day, all while enjoying the sunshine, local culture, and good vibes? The education project in Iringa is your perfect opportunity!

Teaching isn’t just about giving lessons and telling kids to "ssshhh" when they’re chatting. It’s way more than that! It’s your chance to use your energy and creativity to help kids grow, bloom, and dream big about a future full of possibilities. And trust us, once you see that bright smile on a student’s face when they finally get what you’re teaching, you’ll be hooked.

You’ll be working at one of Iringa’s primary or preschools. No stress about choosing beforehand because you’ll get a tour of a few schools to see which one feels like the best fit for you and where you can have the most impact!

***All volunteers in Iringa are between 17 and 25 years old. If you're a bit older and are still interested in this sort of experience, then the Ilula project with its education initiatives might be a better fit for you. The average volunteer age there is a bit higher.

What will you be doing?

In de klas aan het werk als vrijwilliger in Iringa Tanzania op het onderwijs project

You’ll team up with a local teacher (your buddy who knows exactly how everything works) and help out with subjects like English, maths, music, and even creative arts and crafts. Along the way, you’ll play with the kids, enjoy lunch together, and pitch in with everything that happens during a school day – from morning prayers to taking tests. No two days are the same!

Bonus: In Tanzania, you can easily combine your project with others. If you love sports, join the sports project. If you're passionate about working with people with disabilities, check out the day-care project. Or, if you're interested in sign language or want to help make education more inclusive, you can get involved at the school for the deaf. This way, you'll make the most of your time here and discover new ways to learn and grow.

What does a day look like?

You wake up in the morning, grab your bag, a smile and head off to school. You’ll help out in the classroom, join in on activities, and before you know it, you’ll be singing along during a morning routine or leading a creative craft session. The school day ends around midday, so you’ll have plenty of time to explore Iringa, learn some Swahili, or pitch in with another project.

Because it was so much fun on the project and with the other volunteers, we even extended our stay by a week. If you’re unsure about going, we would definitely recommend it!!!

We set up our own project in Tanzania. Through school, we spent six weeks in beautiful Tanzania getting inspired by the culture, sharing and learning through dance classes.

I’ve had an amazing time here and would definitely recommend Tanzania to anyone. It’s so different from back home, and through the projects you can share your skills with the local community while learning just as much from them.
