General Information

Imagine this:
Your alarm doesn’t go off because you don’t need one. Instead, you wake to the sound of birds and a gentle breeze drifting through your hut. You step outside and bam! You’re standing in the heart of an authentic Maasai village, surrounded by friendly faces, vibrant clothing, and a culture that’ll surprise and inspire you at every turn.

The Maasai Secondary School Project isn’t your average volunteer gig. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a real difference, not just in the lives of young Maasai girls, but in your own life too. You’ll teach English (don’t stress, you don’t need to be a perfect teacher), run sports activities, and immerse yourself in a community where traditions are still very much alive. Think centuries-old dances, rituals, and stories that go straight to your heart.

Now, to be fair, you won’t be staying in a fancy villa. You’ll live in a village where authenticity takes centre stage. On weekends, you can head into Iringa town with your fellow volunteers to explore, relax, and enjoy some of the best sights Tanzania has to offer.

So, are you ready for an adventure you’ll never forget? Ready to be the difference in the lives of Maasai girls who truly deserve it? And open to experiencing a culture you won’t just learn about, but really feel?

The Maasai are waiting for you!

What You'll Be Doing

As a volunteer with this project, there’s never a dull moment. Your days will be packed with activities that are not only meaningful for the Maasai girls but incredibly rewarding for you too.

Start your mornings with an engaging English lesson or another subject where you can share your skills. No need to be a pro; your energy and willingness are more than enough. Then it’s time to get moving. Run a sports afternoon or set up some fun games to get everyone active, including yourself. These girls are seriously competitive!

Got a creative streak? Brilliant. You can run workshops in drawing, music or dance. You might even uncover some hidden talents in the group. And if you’re hands-on, you can help out with gardening, small building projects or daily village tasks. Everything you do adds to a brighter future for this community.

And it’s not all hard work. There’s plenty of time to soak up the rich Maasai culture. Learn traditional dances, try local dishes and see how the community works together. On weekends, take a trip into Iringa for a change of pace, some shopping or just a well-earned rest.

In short, as a volunteer you’re not only supporting education and empowerment, you’re diving into a truly unique cultural experience and creating memories that’ll stick with you for life.

Because it was so much fun on the project and with the other volunteers, we even extended our stay by a week. If you’re unsure about going, we would definitely recommend it!!!

We set up our own project in Tanzania. Through school, we spent six weeks in beautiful Tanzania getting inspired by the culture, sharing and learning through dance classes.

I’ve had an amazing time here and would definitely recommend Tanzania to anyone. It’s so different from back home, and through the projects you can share your skills with the local community while learning just as much from them.
